PEFC

All the companies in the Basañez Group adhere to the PEFC system (PAN EUROPEAN FOREST CERTIFICATION), which was introduced in 1998 as a voluntary initiative of the private forestry sector, based on the criteria and indicators forthcoming from the Inter-Ministerial Conferences in Helsinki (1993) and Lisbon (1998), for protecting Europe's forests. PEFC provides a framework for the establishment of comparable national CERTIFICATION schemes that are recognised throughout Europe.
- Maintaining and developing forestry resources and their contribution to global carbon cycles.
- Maintaining forest vitality and health.
- Maintaining and revalorising the productive roles of forests.
- Maintaining, conserving and developing biological diversity.
- Maintaining and appropriately developing protective functions in the forestry sector.
- Maintaining all the other socio-economic conditions and functions that forests provide society at large.
The certification of the chain of custody is the mechanism that verifies whether the timber used by the processing industry comes from forests managed according to sustainability criteria. It constitutes the subsequent step to the Sustainable Forest Management certificate and is a necessary procedure for knowing the origin of the product we are purchasing.
